Morse Code Couples Cards Quick Start Guide

0. Read This First — Battery Installation #

If your device won’t power on, the battery may be installed incorrectly.

Please make sure:

  • The CR1632 battery negative (-) side faces down.
  • Insert the battery at an angle into the holder.
  • Avoid touching the positive contact tab on the side of the battery holder.
  • Refer to the rear-side photo shown above for the correct installation method.

1. Unboxing Checklist #

Make sure you have at least:

  • One morse TWO device
  • A CR1632 battery, or a unit with the battery already installed
  • A USB cable for firmware updates and debugging (if your version includes a USB port)

2. First Power-On #

  1. Turn on the power switch.
  2. Wait for the LED startup animation to finish.
  3. After startup, the device automatically enters Local Practice Mode.

By default, morse TWO does not enable wireless communication and will not automatically connect to a phone.


3. Send Your First Letter #

Try sending E #

  1. Press the button briefly once.
  2. Release the button and wait for decoding.
  3. The LED should display E.

Try sending T #

  1. Press and hold the button once.
  2. Release the button and wait for decoding.
  3. The LED should display T.

4. Adjusting Speed #

Within 5 seconds after powering on, enter one of the following commands:

CommandSpeed
TTTurtle (Slowest)
LLLow
MMMedium
HHHigh (Default)
UUUltra (Fastest)

For beginners, TT or LL is recommended.


5. Mute Mode #

To disable the buzzer:

  1. Power the device off and back on.
  2. Within 5 seconds after startup, enter:BB
  1. The B indicator will light up, confirming that mute mode has been toggled.

Enter BB again to restore sound.


6. Communicating Between Two Devices #

If you have two morse TWO units:

  1. Power-cycle both devices.
  2. Within 5 seconds after startup, enter:DD

on both units.

  1. Send a letter from either device.
  2. The other device should display and play back the received letter.

To return to Local Practice Mode, simply power-cycle the devices again.


7. Phone Configuration #

To modify settings from a smartphone:

  1. Power-cycle the device.
  2. Within 5 seconds after startup, enter:WW
  1. Open nRF Connect.
  2. Search for:

Morse Config 1.00

  1. Connect and open the FFE0 service.

Common parameters:

8. OTA Firmware Update #

To update firmware:

  1. Power-cycle the device.
  2. Within 5 seconds after startup, enter:OO
  1. When the O indicator starts blinking, the device enters IAP mode.
  2. During IAP mode, the O indicator continues blinking.
  3. Open the WCH OTA Tool.
  4. Select the application firmware:

obj/morse_two.hex

  1. Start the update.

9. Power Saving #

In Local Practice Mode, morse TWO automatically enters low-power mode after the display operation is complete.

Press the button again to wake the device.

For extended storage or long periods of inactivity, it is still recommended to turn off the hardware power switch.
